RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #22
Written by JAMES TYNION IV
Art by JULIUS GOPEZ
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
On sale JULY 24 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
As the fate of Jason Todd remains unclear, Starfire faces off against Essence to try and tip the scales—but in which direction?

This cover hurts. Starfire’s ribcage + costume combo… just. I don’t even know what to say. :(

That’s just ghastly.
The artist is clearly talented, too. They clearly know better than this bullshit, but we still get Starfire with no fucking internal organs.
Aside from that, I didn’t think Starfire’s costume could get any less feasible, but it has. There’s not enough double-sided sticky tape in the world.

You guys know March was the Catwoman artist, right? At least he’s not on interiors.

Why is this book still going?

The new writer seems to get Star’s character and I’ve heard good things about Talon so I’m gonna go by the old saying and not judge this one by its cover.

The thing with March’s art is that when he’s told to do “sexy” stuff he usually produces something pretty much like this, and it’s horrid. Not gonna argue here. He used to be on my artist hate list.
But then I read his run on Talon (with a lot of apprehension, mind you) and when he’s given free reign he’s actually great. His take on Calvin is amazing and he does and impressive job with the other Talons and backgrounds. And the ladies look fine in the book too. There might be some minor issues I missed but nothing escher girls worthy.

Interview: James Tynion IV Takes Up Arms with RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS

jamesthefourth:

I did another interview about RHATO! You should read it with your FACES!

A very enjoyable interview. Makes me even more excited for Tynion’s run on the title. Also how cute is his fannish enthusiasm about the characters? :)

Oops, I jumped on a bandwagon. Am I cool yet?

We need more ship names

YEAH DAMN RIGHT WE NEED THEM

hm

how about

ARSEFIRE

for Arsenal and Starfire

(you can ignore me now, I’m in a silly mood)

omfg

Ok I guess that wasn’t such a good name, but they do need one. I mean, it’s a canon ship. They need a name and a tag of their own!

I’d say Koy, but we’d get too many fish pics.

I just laughed so hard at Arsefire (I’m actually ten).

Koy would be nice, but yes, fish everywhere. Plus Kaldur and Red Arrow from YJ are sometimes referred to like that (because of the K in Kaldur AND the fish both).

Joyfire is the nicest name so far :)

And I mostly just broship the Outlaws, but those are good ships that deserve some support, yo.
